FAQS
HOW LONG DOES A SESSION TAKE, AND HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?
Appointments typically go for 50 minutes. The duration of therapy will depend on a number of different factors - including your treatment goals and the modality employed. During your initial appointment, we will discuss your needs and what you hope to achieve from therapy, and together create a treatment plan.
CAN I GET A MEDICARE REBATE?
Medicare provides subsided sessions through a 'mental health treatment plan (MHTP)' available through your GP. While these rebates are not available specifically for gender incongruence / gender dysphoria, they are available to support associated mental health presentations including adjustment, anxiety and depression.
A Mental Health Care Plan from your GP allows you to claim $136.35 per session (for up to 10 sessions per year). To find out if you are eligible for a Mental Health Care Plan, we suggest you book an appointment with your GP prior to your first session.
DO I NEED TO ARRANGE ANYTHING PRIOR TO MY FIRST SESSION?
You will be emailed an intake form to complete, as well as an information and consent form to read and sign prior to your first session. Automatic payments will be set up prior to commencing. If you are seeking a Medicare rebate, you will need a valid referral from your GP. If you have already accessed psychology sessions this year, we recommend that you check with Medicare how many sessions you have remaining for the calendar year.
IS MY MENTAL HEALTH CARE PLAN VALID?
A referral from your GP must include:
Your name
Your date of birth
Your address
Diagnosis or symptoms
List of any current medications
Number of sessions you are being referred for
